Year-Round Herbs
Did you know you can grow Rosemary, Thyme, Sage, Lavender, Marjoram & Chives all year long?
These grow best in containers or raised gardens with good drainage. Ideally, they are 8” - 12” wide and deep and include sandy loam soil.
You can make your own soil mix if needed by mixing 1 part topsoil, 1 part compost, and 1 part coarse sand.
They do best with 4-6 hours of sun a day. They may need some shade at the height of summer heat. Prune from lower outside leaves and let the plant regrow from the center. Avoid heavy pruning in the summer heat. Fresh compost is all you need to fertilize at the beginning of the spring and fall.
Fresh herbs are great for adding to salads, soups, stir fries, or to add flavor to any dish. You can even add them to summer cocktails or fresh squeezed lemonade. Dry herbs for a more intense flavor and for use in teas, infused oils, or potpourri sachets.
